WILLOW PARK
Type: Multi-family Residential
Location: Hoboken, NJ
Status: Built
A rare opportunity developed from the assembly of nine buildings in a row as well as several on the same block but facing the next street with their rear yards creating a private inner garden space against the original nine. This atrium was used to construct a pool and garden area terraced from adjoining apartments and open to the residents. The row of old tenements was deconstructed, and a singular hall was run down the spine with two means of egress, a common entry and elevator access. Unique apartments and duplex units were designed along the new hallway and an entire block front on two streets was revitalized and returned to full occupancy.
Hoboken, NJ was being rediscovered as the ideal place to live. This intimate city, once a pastoral resort for the rich, was now the subject of growing acclaim and appreciation. Interest centered upon the convenient location, historical past, fine residential neighborhoods, and exciting future water-front developments.
